Freedom Of Speech Is A Human Right by TheArtFrog Freedom Of Speech Is A Human Right by TheArtFrog
Just because you take offense to something, doesn't mean others will.
I could find Teletubbies offensive, but it doesn't mean that it should be banned.

Criticism should never be censored, especially not as 'hate speech'.
We should be able to criticise religion or harmful ideologies without persecution.
louderwithcrowder.com/now-ille… The shit that goes on now, such as the new laws in Australia, has to stop.

If I want to say that God is an asshole, or that religious schools should be abolished, or that Christianity and Islam are religions with fundamentally violent texts, then I have every right to do so.

We need criticism and free speech to be a healthy moral society. Sometimes the truth can be uncomfortable to say, but we shouldn't be stopped in saying it.
Without free speech, we are not free to talk about issues that really ought to be talked about!

You know, when motherfucking South Park (which is where I got the quote from) is more reasonable then a large group of people when it comes to this stuff, then theres an issue. Also, have you heard of the youtuber Chris Ray Gun? You might like him, hes got some interesting points and opinions on a lot of social issues

It's funny to see South Park tackle the issues of PC culture in such a hilarious way.
I briefly encountered a Chris Ray Gun video, but I haven't seen much of him.

"Negroes were offended by Little Black Sambo, BURN IT! Whites were made uncomfortable by Uncle Tom's Cabin. BURN IN!" - a Fireman explaining why they have to burn books in the novel Fahrenheit 451.

However Groups on dA should be permitted to have Standards on what is or isn't permissible. There is also the matter of where you say what is offensive. Go ahead and call God what you did in one of the dA Christian Groups and see what happens.

Of course groups can have standards, but people shouldn't be banned completely from DA for just having certain political beliefs or unfavourable opinions.

And of course, if people want to view relevant opinions, then they can. There's nothing stopping people on this site from doing so. Pro-lifers can comment on pro-choice journals. Right wingers can comment on left wing deviations. If you really don't want it, block or hide the comment. Simple, but people can still continue to express their opinions elsewhere on DA. :)

Which conversation would you be referring to there? :? I forget which groups that was.
I call God what he is. If you don't like it, you don't have to respond, or you can try to debate it. :)

True. However, a person may have the right to speak like a jackass but they don't have the right to behave like one.

Technically one can behave like a jackass all they want so long as they aren't violating rights or breaking laws, but they'd still have to deal with the consequences of their actions.

sooo it should be perfectly fine for people to run around spreading hate against other races, other religions, other sexualities and genders etc in the name of "freedom" especially when words, especially hateful ones spread around society KILL others.

This covers that: Freedom of Religion/Speech are NOT Excuses... by TheArtFrog

Basically hate speech (real hate speech, not criticism mislabelled as such) and defamation are breaching human rights. The right to free speech stops where violence begins. If someone incites violent action on purpose towards people based on race, gender, etc, then they don't have that right, as others have the right to freedom from discrimination and the right to bodily integrity and life. Here 3 rights outweigh the 1 and so freedom of speech ends there.

However we need to be careful in this political climate, as the world is becoming dangerously full of censorship.

i've seen countless echo chambers before where people locked in ideology and identity politics add to their malformed confirmation biases. /pol/ is a relatively popular example of many.

forcing them out might make them illegal but it won't get rid of them. many know how to use memes and substitute terms such as "dindu" for "nigger".

Ok but what if someone goes around saying trans people for instance are not natural and need to accept the sex they are born as, not entirely dsngerous by itself, but over time the message leads hundreds of trans people to suicide and incurable mental disorders such as depression and anxiety, it should be noted words are as dangerous as actions and acting in such a way and talking in such away about people is as dangerous as having a loaded gun

There's Nothing Wrong With Being Trans! by TheArtFrog

Censorship would only lead to dark times indeed, and potentially a lot more grief and suffering and suicides in the long run. Freedom of speech is the best weapon against itself. If someone says that it's not natural, then others can stand up against that and say otherwise, and debate it until the truth comes out and they realise how natural it actually is.

Freedom of speech actually doesn't cover true hate speech or defamation or anything like that. If someone says it's unnatural, while offensive, they have every right to say so, but if they start spouting just plain hatred, then they can get in trouble for that.

i don't see how preventing any type of hate speech towards any group would be "dark times" considering what it is now with so many lgbt people dying, other races dying etc because of "freedom of speech" people may not be directly saying "Kill these types of people" but they treat them like such garbage until they do it themselves, so tell me again how "freedom of speech" should be protected

Freedom Of Speech is Under Attack!Hello fellow deviants and internet-goers.
I would like to bring us together, to unite us as a community in discussion about an important topic.
I don't mean to bring fear, that's not my intent. I simply want to get people talking. Why you ask? It's because...

Freedom of Speech is becoming an endangered right. We need to save it.
Please fave :+fav: this journal if you support it, and share it on any and every social media you can if you want to help spread the word.

 #SaveFreeSpeech   #ShallNotBeSilenced
It's time we start a real movement to save our right to speak up about things.
You can help by writing your own journals about it, posting videos about it on Youtube, posting about it on Facebook, using Twitter to talk about it...
Please! Write! Talk! Discuss! Openly debate and argue it! We NEED to speak up!
The only way we can protect free speech is by speaking up about it's erosion in

Maybe this'll help shed light on the matter.

Too many things that aren't hate speech are being censored as such nowadays, and we shouldn't censor things that some people find offensive either.
Freedom Of Speech Is A Human Right by TheArtFrog  Some Opinions Are Harmful But... by TheArtFrog  I'd Rather Live In a World With Full Free Speech by TheArtFrog

I'm sorry but freedom of speech is a basic human right.
Human Rights are Not Debatable by TheArtFrog
Without it we can't have healthy and open discussion as a society about things that, while they may be hard to hear, we really need to discuss. We can't just censor criticism of religion or sociopolitical problems just because some idiots might take offence to it.

Questioning the flawed beliefs of certain religions is not being "-phobic" to said religion.
Criticising the Black Lives Matter movement is not being racist.

Without free speech, we could soon end up living in a society where common sense is censored while cult-like ideologies can run amok.

Freedom of speech doesn't allow harassment or real hate speech, since people also have the right to freedom from discrimination. But we need to have less vagueness surrounding the laws concerning it. Mislabelling things that aren't hate speech as hate speech, calling things racist when they're not and censoring conservative and right wing views just because people disagree with them is ruining our society and making a scary political climate where anyone can be silenced when they're simply making valid points and that is very messed up indeed.

ok but you arent getting what i'm saying, i've attempted suicide, i've known people who have committed suicide because they were made to feel like garbage for being gay, black, etc. if that makes me an "idiot" because HUNDREDS of people, and all i see day in and day out is people saying shit like "lgbt people are immoral, god doesn't want them ,they are nothing but lustful sinful, they can't feel love, etc" or better yet when people fight to deny my rights as a human being you cant tell me the freedom of speech is a good and just thing when the majority of people use it against people like me and hurt us with it endlessly.

I'm sorry to hear that.

That's why we have freedom of speech. So we can send counter-arguments to people spouting such bullsh*t to show society what is truly right:

And also, I think these explain it better.
Freedom of Religion/Speech are NOT Excuses... by TheArtFrog  Freedom of Speech Shouldn't be Misused for Hate by TheArtFrog
Free speech doesn't mean we have to put up with people advocating human rights abuses. There is a fine line. Unfortunately these days people keep trying to move that line to simply being free from offence, which is just wrong.
Real hate speech isn't actually under free speech, as it conflicts with the right to be free from discrimination.

I partially agree. While yes, it is a basic human right, a lot of people use it as an excuse to be an obnoxious asshole. Like I'm saying as in legitimate harassment and claiming it as free speech and criticism, where in reality you're just being a dick.

Freedom of speech doesn't necessarily give people the right to send death threats or harassment to people. Your rights in a lot of cases (but not all) will usually stop where other rights are being infringed upon.
